Homophobes at Union Square Last Week

The one on the right was shouting about the bible and the one on the left was handing out flyers.  I stopped to take a picture with my crappy camera phone because I was very affected by the anger of the guy on the right. He was so incensed that I could feel the hate physically before I could even distinguish the words he was saying.  I figured taking a picture was a relatively safe way to display my opposition, making him the passive object being photographed rather than the active voice of moral outrage.   Maybe he would feel self conscious and think about how it looks to rant and rave in public.  I did not get too close but none the less he called out to me, "It is against the law to take a picture, and if you are a lesbian, you are against god's law."

LOL! Thou didst KNOWINGLY consort with yon sinners!

You know, there's an inviolable, tiny part of me that clings to the belief in some sort of Deity but I am convinced of that beings absolute remoteness. I don't imagine an omnipresent entity that is actually watching and listening to us or one that has ANY part in the goings on of life around me. It is strange to me then that such a man, who's idea of God is supposed to be an all-loving figure, claims this very personification as the justification for his hate. It is examples like this that batter so constantly upon my last vestiges of belief. I never fail to be disappointed in Humanity.
